good to see ya. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we could all remember the pure joys of childhood? People were people. Fun was fun. And chocolate fudge? That’s what was for dessert.
Back in 1995, we (just call us Max and Ally) started an award-winning dessert cafe restaurant called NYDC. Oh, check out our reviews (some from Vogue and Elle magazines, yay!) and our motto. We wanted to create a place where people could connect, share their joy, let their hair down; enjoy great food, good friends.
Personally, we have a deep love for food. We love to cook, bake, and make chocolate and we do it with joy. The root of our love for great food is the way it brings families and friends together and cements our relationships with each other. From the time we started NYDC, we believed that we could play a small part in uniting the people of the world. Through the golden link of food, we come together. These days, we are expressing our creativity through chocolate more than any other food, and we love to share it.
Cocopotamus is a line of all natural, gourmet chocolate truffles - gourmet chocolate fudge truffles, to be precise. Our idea is to create a fun, modern twist on old-fashioned chocolate fudge using the best ingredients from many cultures in America. Cocopotamus chocolate truffles is not like the fudge you may remember. The concept is to take that old-school fudge and twist it in a modern direction.
You may already know that chocolate fudge is one of the few true American chocolate inventions. And we believe that this humble confection - created by accident, no less - deserves to be kept alive. Why do so many chocolatiers think that only European style candies and chocolates are great? We say there can be greatness in humble chocolate fudge, and we're here to prove it. The way we update fudge is simple. Cocopotamus fudge truffles are smoother, creamier and less sweet than typical old-fashioned fudge. Next, we use a higher quality of chocolate than what was available to Grandma. It's also a much darker chocolate with more depth of flavor. The result is not just sweet or one-dimensional, but a truly sophisticated and complex flavor.
We are fortunate enough to live in a street where people are living everyday joy. They believe in coming out to play with their children. In working hard but then kicking back, in visiting with the neighbors and in celebrating the seasons and events of our lives & of our community. Following their example, we work at living this way too. We remind ourselves to be happy everyday, to work and to play every day, and of course, to eat great dark chocolate every day! (Yes, we do bring out the Cocopotamus dark chocolate fudge every night after dinner.) Because after all, joy is not some big elusive quest. Joy is life & love, family & neighbors, friends & fudge. Joy is keeping an American tradition like chocolate fudge growing and changing with the times. Everyday chocolate, everyday joy.
