Chocolate comes from regions near the Equator. The top countries for growing cacao (the fruit from which chocolate is made) are those within 20 degrees of the Equator. These include Venezuala, Trinidad, the Ivory Coast and Ghana.
Chocolate is famously associated with many European countries. As for chocolate in the form of fudge, it is a well known as a classic American chocolate favorite. However, the cacao plant from which chocolate is made only grows in Equatorial regions.
In addition to the chocolate countries already mentioned, there are other countries growing cacao these days. They include Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Equador, Peru, Brazil, Sierra Leone, Toga, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Fiji among others.
